About OMI.

OMI Athletic Consulting was born of a desire to assist small college Presidents and athletic administrators create, evaluate and improve athletic operations on their campuses.   L. Dexter Irvin, OMI President, has over forty five years of athletic background and experience to assist you with the depth and perspective that is needed for your program evaluation. 

Irvin has served as a community college athletic director, NCAA Division II athletic director as well as coaching at both of these and the NAIA collegiate levels.  Working as an NJCAA Regional director,  assistant director, and various NCAA and NJCAA sports committees Irvin provides a local, regional and national perspective.   The experience of building entire programs from the ground up, and renovating existing programs  has given Irvin the skills at problem resolution. challenges in athletics administration, and financing of athletic programs.  The no BS approach of OMI Athletic Consulting will give you straight forward answers without wasting your time or resources.

Experience

2014-2023

College of Southern Nevada

In 2014 CSN had two sports baseball and softball.  Irvin was hired to create a NJCAA DI program without scholarships and with part time coaches. Over then next ten years, while serving as and NJCAA assistant and Region 18 Director, Irvin built a fully operational and competitive program in the Las Vegas and surrounding area.

2009-14

University of Hawaii-Hilo

Irvin was hired to course correct a NCAA DII program that was successful but has serious financial issues at time the entire national was in deep recession. By following NCAA guidelines, developing a philosophical shift,  working with the staff, and making specific hires, Irvin was able to help guide the Vulcans back on the path to athletic and academic success.

1999-2009

Dixie State College

In 1999 Dixie State College, a Junior College in St. George UT, hired Irvin to be its athletic director.  Irvin proceeded to lead a program that won four national championships, (baseball, men's basketball, and two in women's soccer.   Dixie made the jump to the NCAA DII in 2005 in a record setting two years.  While always being a premier JC, Dixie became and NCAA DII force, helped begin a new conference (PAC West)  and has now evolved into a NCAA DI program   Utah Technical University.
